Glarus, 06 May 2012.Every first Sunday in May, as long as climate allow, the citizens of voting age converge in Glarus. The Zaunplatz, usually a car, becomes the political arena of the Alpine canton. Since 1387, the Landesgemeinde is the center of public life in the township. Laws are passed by show of hands and judges appointed too. Citizens take a stand on the cantonal business and tax rates, and they have the right to propose amendments on site that are immediately voted by show of hands..Jean-Patrick Di Silvestro
